Artistic Medals

Abstract

The collection is comprised of artistic medals and other small relief sculptures that were collected within the Rinehart School of Sculpture. Many of the medals were created by artists through the auspices of the Society of Medallists, sometimes for the Society's annual edition.

The collection also includes pieces made by people affiliated with the Maryland Institute as alumni or faculty.

S.C. Malone Penmanship Collection

The collection consists of 73 examples of penmanship, the work of Samuel Curtis Malone or his associates. Included are alphabets, projects for specific clients, decorative borders and unspecified blanks, and promotional pieces for S.C. Malone’s business in Baltimore, Maryland. There are also 3 items of instructional penmanship from Malone’s teaching endeavors, and approximately 22 items that are sketches, preparatory drawings, and notes. Sophia L. Crownfield Textile Design Collection

Drawings of floral subjects in various media, including pencil, ink, watercolor, created by Sophia L. Crownfield. Some paintings in oil are included. The drawings were studies in different stages of development toward designs for textile patterns, to be produced in silk for the woman’s dress-silk trade. Some examples of silk textiles that were the result of the drawings are included.
