Biographical / Historical
Virginia West was a prominent member of the weaving and crafts community in the U.S.A. and internationally from the 1960s until her death in 2021. She taught at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in what was then called the “Crafts” department beginning in 1969 through the early 1980s. At one time she served as the Maryland representative of the American Crafts Council.
West’s weaving practice focused on woven garments for women as well as fiber artworks, and she wrote articles and books, and curated exhibits.

2.5 Linear Feet (4 hollinger boxes) : The collection consists of weaving patterns - mainly for women's garments, and research files on fiber artists and textile traditions (clippings, ephemera, photographs, 35mm slides, and textile samples). Book-length publications in the collection were added to the Decker Library circulating book collection.
